Our History
The idea for Back the Badges BBQ was born from the heart of Eric Seymour—a former Navy Corpsman, Paramedic, and Law Enforcement Officer. After moving into the business world, Eric felt a strong calling to give back to the community that had given him so much and continues to work tirelessly to keep us all safe. He envisioned more than just a casual cookout—it had to be a full-on, authentic Texas BBQ as a heartfelt show of appreciation.
When Eric shared his idea with his wife, Sara, she was immediately on board—excited not only about the event itself, but also about the opportunity to teach their son the importance of paying it forward and honoring those who serve. With the support of their dedicated office manager, Sasha, and Eric’s right-hand man, Aaron, what started as a simple idea quickly grew into something far more impactful. In 2019, Eric and Sara sold their business, which had served as the primary funding source for the BBQs. That moment marked a new chapter: turning their personal passion into a lasting mission. In January 2020, the Back the Badges BBQ Foundation was officially launched—committed to honoring and supporting our first responders in a meaningful way. |
Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure that the first responder community knows they are truly appreciated and supported by the people they serve. While a simple meal may seem small to some, it has proven to be incredibly meaningful for our responders. No media, no agenda, no politics—just a heartfelt thank you. It’s a moment to break bread not only with their shift but also with the other agencies they work alongside. It's a chance to share stories, build understanding, laugh together—and sometimes, even cry together.
We are committed to being a reliable resource for our partner agencies in times of crisis. In the world of first responders, it’s not a matter of if a tragedy will strike, but when. When that time comes, Back the Badges BBQ Foundation will mobilize every resource at our disposal to support those who need it most.
Lastly, we are deeply focused on bridging the divide between first responders and the communities they protect. While the media and others often push its own narrative, we believe in rewriting the story—one that’s built on mutual respect, compassion, and unity. No one should be judged by the color of their skin or the uniform they wear. Through purposeful community outreach, we’re committed to connecting hearts and minds and fostering real understanding.
